The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Police Department proudly participated in the annual Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run, which passed through their campus on Monday, June 3. This event, a staple for the SIUE PD for over 15 years, saw the addition of a Special Olympics athlete joining the officers, adding a special touch to the day. The Torch Run is not only a vital fundraising movement but also aims to raise awareness for the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois.

On June 6th the Edwardsville Fire Department and the Madison County Technical Rescue Team partnered with Southern Illinois University’s Environmental Health and Safety Department to engage in a training inside the SIUE School of Engineering Building for a Structural Collapse Exercise Simulation. The drill focused on constructing a permanent shore to stabilize a beam holding up an upper floor after a simulated partial collapse of the building from a natural disaster.
