BJC HealthCare’s Mike Hayes Named 2025 Distinguished CLI Alumni
Mike Hayes, Vice President of Planning, Design and Constructions, is the recipient of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s 2025 Construction Leadership Institute (CLI) Alumni Leadership Award.
The CLI Alumni Leadership Award recognizes an outstanding graduate who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and service to the St. Louis area building community.
Mike Hayes, Vice President of Planning, Design and Construction (PD&C) for BJC HealthCare, is responsible for the overall operations of a department that includes more than 60 project managers, planners, engineers, interior designers and project coordinators. His team oversees a portfolio of $300M+/- of annual capital investments covering 250+/- active projects across the organization.
Mike ensures policies and procedures are established and followed by the department for best practice project management, while continually focusing on innovative, evidence-based healthcare design approaches and construction trends. He oversees all PD&C contract award processes, leverages capital purchasing power through contracting strategies and represents BJC in contract disputes.
His team collaborates closely with facility operations to ensure the organization is implementing best practice and cost-effective energy solutions for all capital construction and infrastructure investments. His department ensures design and construction practices are timely and cost-effective, focus on patient and visitor safety, and are inclusive of the communities BJC serves.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Missouri S&T in 2007, was an SIUE CLI graduate in 2011. He earned an MBA from Webster University in 2015. He holds both PMP and CHC certifications, sits on multiple philanthropy boards and was part of the Regional Business Council Leadership 100 Cohort of 2020-21.
Mike spent his early career with SM Wilson working in Springfield, IL, followed by ten years with BJC and three years with PARIC Corporation before returning to BJC in his current role.
CLI is an executive education program jointly developed by SIUE's School of Business and the School of Engineering's Department of Construction. It brings together professionals from many sectors of the building industry.
Since CLI’s creation, more than 625 emerging leaders and executives have benefitted from the nine-week program that strengthens leadership, strategic thinking, communications and key management skills.
