SIUE Student-Athletes Extend 3.0 Streak; Earning 3.320 Grade Point Average
For the 37th consecutive semester, SIUE student-athletes have earned a cumulative grade point average of better than 3.0. During the fall 2024 semester, the Cougars earned a 3.320. For the third time since transitioning to Division I, all 14 sports earned a team average GPA above 3.0.
"While we expect our student-athletes to prioritize academics and achieve these results, we do not take their accomplishments for granted," Director of Athletics Andrew Gavin said. "We're especially proud that this fall each of our teams recorded a GPA above a 3.0, which reflects not only their commitment but also the commitment of our coaches. Finally, we continue to be grateful for the support and resources provided by Jaci DeClue, Ashley Beaton Simpson, and Lindsey Schmidt."
Women's cross country claimed the highest overall team GPA with a 3.614. The overall top three was rounded out by women's tennis with a 3.577 and women's soccer at 3.488.
Among men's teams, men's soccer took over the top spot, and finished fourth overall with a 3.402. Men's golf, at 3.370, and men's cross county, at 3.187 finished second and third, respectively.
Better than 70 percent of SIUE student-athletes earned a 3.0 or higher and 51 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0, which represents 19 percent of Cougar student-athletes. A total of 44 percent of the student-athletes earned Dean's List honors during the fall semester.
The men's team average for the semester is 3.200. The women's team average is 3.485. Eight out of 14 teams earned over a 3.400.
Five SIUE student-athletes maintained a perfect 4.0 for three semesters or more: Spencer Stearns (baseball), Ava Gugliuzza (women's basketball), Calli Chiarelli (women's soccer), Matea Diekema (women's soccer), and Brock Woodcock (wrestling).
Additionally, SIUE Athletics recognizes first-year transfers and freshmen who earned a perfect 4.0 in their first term at SIUE: Zach Duenas (baseball), Ethan Hamrick (baseball), Declan Dillon (men's basketball), Jo Valrie (men's basketball), Meegan Fahy (women's basketball), Olivia Loveland (women's basketball), Emilee Franklin (women's cross country/track), Sophia Harrison (women's cross country/track), Arianna Neisen (women's cross country/track), Kate Soderlind (women's cross country/track), Erica Woodard (women's cross country/track), Yasha Schaerer (men's soccer), Emma Czech (women's soccer), Kaylin Fahy (softball), Noelle Compton (tennis), Payton Tomicheck (tennis), Jaiden Parker (women's track), Jazmin West (women's track), Oliva Hogan (volleyball), and Sophie Robinson (volleyball).
