NCERC in the News with Biomanufacturing Project Management Certificate Program
The National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC) at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville appeared in the news for creating a Biomanufacturing Project Management Certificate Program in collaboration with Binghamton University. The WBNG 12 News story, published Feb. 20, mentions potential enrollment of 25 to 30 students in its first cohort for a six-month course of specialized online training modules focused on environmentally friendly biomanufacturing using “green” chemistry.
Students in the program will travel to NCERC to shadow projects.
NCERC has two objectives within the project:
- Objective 1: A week-long, on-site training at NCERC to expose trainees to industry green chemistry production using a feedstock-to-biofuel production as an example
- Objective 2: Work with Binghamton University to develop a curriculum, mentor students on their capstone design projects related to fermentation, green chemistry biomanufacturing
"NCERC can provide a training ground with hands-on experiences at the plant and the lab, which are directly related to industrial projects. These projects represent the most cutting-edge and innovative technologies being tested that will be utilized to strengthen the bioeconomy," said Yanhong Zhang, PhD, NCERC Interim Center Director and Director of Research.
