GAY COALITION MEETING AT MLSC
(from Prime Time, August, 1977, p. 32.)
The recently-formed St. Louis Gay Coalition held its second meetlng Thursday, July 21, at the Gay Community Center. Groups represented included MLSC, the St. Louis Task Force for Human Rights, MCC, Dignity, Integrity, Lutherans Concerned, and the new Gay Democrats Club.
There was general agreement that St. Louis does not need another new gay organization. What is needed, and what the Coalition aims to provide, is better communication and cooperation among the existing groups. The St. Louis Gay Coalition, therefore, will be essentially a communications network to facilitate united action through designated contact persons within each member organization.
Plans were made at the meeting to send a group to Columbia to represent the St. Louis gay community when Anita Bryant is there. (See the form In this issue for volunteering to be part of the St. Louis delegation.) The communications network will be used to alert all local gay groups to Ms. Bryant's arrival.
Meanwhile, the organizations belonging to the St. Louis Gay Coalition are exploring the possibility of contributing 10% of all funds raised in benefits to the National Gay Lobby.
Three members of the St. Louis Gay Coalition—Rick Garcia, Jim Thomas and Donna Wade—are going to Denver to attend the National Gay Leadership Conference July 29 and 30.
The next meeting of the Coalition will be on Thursday, August 25, at The Center.
