ST. LOUIS GAY COALITION EMERGING
(from Prime Time, July, 1977, p. 1-2.)
Although no formal action has been taken yet, what seems to be emerging from the meeting of major local gay groups held at MLSC last month is a St. Louis gay coalition. Groups represented at the June meeting included MLSC, MCC, the St. Louis Task Force for Human Rights, Integrity, Lutherans Concerned, Blue Max Cycle Club and others, there was unanimous agreement on the need for better communication and more effective cooperation within the St. Louis gay community.
The coalition that is under discussion, however, is not a new organization and may not take on any formal structure at all. What it would represent, if all the member organizations approve the necessary actions, is an informal structure for unifying the efforts and the voices of the various groups within the St. Louis gay population, particularly on key issues, and above all when presenting our position on these issues to the media and the 'straight' world.
Another meeting is scheduled for July 21st to allow further discussion among representatives of the participating groups. At that time, the coalition day begin to take clearer shape. Meanwhile, the first steps, at least, have been taken toward a more united and stronger St. Louis gay community.
