The SIUE chapter of SUAA (State Universities Annuitants Association) was pleased to sponsor  Tier 1 and Tier 2, Understanding Your SURS Benefits.

Stephanie Kite, a Retirement Counselor at SURS since January 2019, was our presenter.  She discussed vesting requirements, service credit accumulation and purchases, benefit calculations, the Retirement Savings Plan (RSP), the Deferred Compensation Plan (DCP), death and survivor benefits, the process of retirement, and health insurance.

Whether you are a new employee, are already vested in SURS, or looking toward retiring soon; it is never too soon to begin thinking about and planning for your financial future.

Whether you attended the session or not, we encourage you to:

1. View the pre-session video for an introduction to what SUAA is, what it does, and why being a member is important to you and your financial future given the State's major pension deficits that have been decades in the making.
2. Visit the SURS website at https://www.surs.org to view one or more of their recordings.  Once on their home page, click on Resources then Videos.  Scroll to the bottom of the page to locate the overview of both Tier 1 and Tier 2 benefits.  While you are there, be sure to check out all of the available titles.  You may find it most beneficial to view the video specific to the plan in which you are actually enrolled.
