Protect Your Retirement
When you join SUAA, you join over 14,800 Illinois university and community college employees, retirees, and their beneficiaries seeking to protect and preserve what was promised to each of us in our retirements. Over the years, we diligently paid our fair share into the system. It was the Legislature that failed in its responsibility to adequately fund its portion.
SUAA is only as effective as the many members we represent. We actively oppose legislation that increasingly attempts to balance the State budget by reducing retirement benefits. There is strength in numbers. Legislators are more likely to listen to the many who speak up for what is right. Make sure your voice is heard! Join SUAA today.
How to Join
Joining is easy! For just $45 per year ($3.75 per month), you’ll receive the benefits of belonging to the organization on the front line of providing the necessary experienced support to protect our benefits today and into the future. Employees can pay by check, checking account debit, or credit card; while retirees also have the option of paying monthly via a SURS annuity deduction.
- Join Online through the SUAA website. Note that you will be asked to provide your email address before you will be taken to the actual online registration site.
- Complete a Paper Application - Download an application form and mail to the address on the top of the form: SUAA , 217 E. Monroe, Suite 100, Springfield, IL 62701. The application is in PDF format which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader. (Review the default Adobe extensions and optional selections before you begin to download Acrobat Reader, unchecking any you do not want or need.)

How to Renew
To assure the smoothest renewal process, make sure to renew before your membership expires. SUAA will notify you that your membership is coming due, so make sure that they have your current email address on file.
- While your membership remains active, you may renew through the SUAA website by logging in and paying online with a credit card, or printing out your invoice and mailing it in with a check. Effective May 2024, members may now opt for credit card auto-renewal by selecting the "auto-renew" checkbox during the online renewal process.
- Once your membership has lapsed, the only way to renew your membership with a credit card is to call the SUAA office directly at 217-523-4040. Otherwise, you will need to print out and complete the Paper Application and mail it in with your check.
