The State Universities Annuitants Association (SUAA) is the only advocacy organization focused solely upon preserving and protecting a strong public pension system and healthcare benefits for current public university and community college employees, retirees, and their spouses and survivors.
Why is that important to you? The State of Illinois currently has $137 billion[1] in unfunded pension liability, impacting not only the annual State budget, but each and every SURS member paying into those pension plans or drawing down from them. SUAA actively monitors legislative initiatives in Springfield as they are introduced to address this financial shortfall, a problem which has been decades in the making; monitoring the potential threat any legislative proposition poses to the retirement security of past, present, and future employees of Illinois.
