SIUE Chapter of SUAA Presents: Understanding the Basics of Financial Literacy
The SIUE Chapter of the State Universities Annuitants Association (SUAA) was pleased to present "Understanding the Basics of Financial Literacy" with Chad Opel, and Evan Mowen of Front Office Wealth Strategies. Chad and Evan are both SIUE alumni. Chad is a former athlete and Hall of Fame member, and currently serves on the SIUE Foundation Board. Both presenters are Certified Financial Planners and have experience guiding clients in state retirement systems like SURS and TRS.
This interactive session was primarily intended for current employees, especially those in SURS Tier II, however all employees and retirees were welcome, including those in Tier I.
Employees in their early to mid-careers gained insights into how to plan for their financial futures today, from managing student educational loans, to saving for their children's college education, to supplementing their personal savings for their retirement. Chad and Evan helped attendees understand terms like being “vested in SURS,” the difference between a Roth IRA and a Traditional IRA, and how to roll-over an IRA from a previous employer.
All members of SUAA, as well as non-members, were invited to attend. There were opportunities for general questions, however no personalized investment advice was given. This program was designed to be an educational opportunity, not a sales pitch. Seating was limited to allow attendees a personalized experience.
In order to assure adequate seating for this free event, each attendee was asked to complete the online registration form here by noon, Monday, March 18th.
No food was served, but attendees were invited to bring their own lunches to this event.
