Greetings & Welcome,
Please allow this site to introduce you to the Inaugural Miss Black SIUE Scholarship Pageant and the Tau Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, INC.
The Tau Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. was the first African American fraternity established at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1965. Since then, the Tau Gamma Chapter has released some of the most successful businessmen, politicians and educators into our society.
The purpose of the Miss Black SIUE Scholarship Pageant is to help provide an opportunity to outstanding young women of color from the campus of SIUE by developing their skills in academics, public speaking, and the performing arts through the celebration of their culture. Aside from providing a scholarship to its winner, the pageant encourages leadership, scholastic achievement and believes that higher education is the key to lifelong success and empowerment. The winner of the Miss Black SIUE Scholarship Pageant will use her civic statue to promote awareness of these issues during her reign.
The 2012 pageant winner and recipient of an $1,000 scholarship award is Jatavia Wright. Jatavia set the bar high for future contestants through her performance on Ocober 6th at the inaugural pageant. It is now her duty to uphold this prestigious title and coordinate next year's pageant. Chelsea Reddix (1st Runner-Up) and Dariel Miller (2nd Runner-Up) received $250 scholarships as well for their performances.
