Course 2: Laptop Storage Device Upgrade

Lesson 1: Removing the Hard Drive

Shutdown the laptop and discconect the power cable.

Flip over the laptop and using #0x2x1/2” screwdriver, remove the 12 countersunk screws securing the underside cover to the laptop chassis.

With the 12 countersunk screws removed, carefully remove the underside cover from the laptop chassis; be careful not to pull on any cables inside of the laptop.

Locate the hard drive and carefully disconnect the SATA data and power cable from the hard drive.
As the name suggests, the SATA data and power cable provide data and power transfer between the storage device and laptop motherboard, the main printed circuit board (PCB) that makes up the laptop.
This is similar to how a Thunderbolt or USB-C cable provides data and power transfer between your smartphone and laptop.

Using a #000x2x1/2” screwdriver, remove the 4 pan-head screws securing the drive bracket to the laptop chassis.
1.6
With the 4 pan-head screws removed, remove the drive bracket from the laptop chassis.
