CMIS 300 - Web-based Application Design
Project Focus:
Develop a professional website for Professional Administrative Support Services.
Contribution/Role:
Website Developer
Technology/Skills:
HTML/CSS programming, Notepad++
Description:
One of my class mates and I created a professional website for a client. Our client was a virtual assistant. Since most people do not know what a virtual assistant is we wanted to provide the customer with this information. We created pages that asked, what is a virtual assistant and why they should use one? In those pages we answered these questions. We also constructed a Contact Us page and on it is text fields where potential customers can send our client an email.
Challenges:
Our biggest challenge on this project was trying to figure out what our client wanted and needed. It was hard to know since we did not have a good way to contact her and our questions had to be forwarded through our professor. We received basic information from her and built off of that.
Reflections:
When in a development position it is hard to make the users happy especially when it is hard to contact them. It was a great project and I learned a lot from it. I learned things such as managing a development group project, HTML/CSS, and how to structure your files.
MGMT 331 - Managing Group Projects
Project Focus:
Solve a group management problem within a case study.
Contribution/Role:
Project Manager
Technology/Skills:
Smart sheet, Project Management, Status Reports, Action plans.
Description:
In this group project each member read a case study. We would each analyze it and try to determine the fundamental management problem. After that we would develop ways to fix the FMP. There were three cases in this class and each member had to be the project manager in at least one of them.
Challenges:
This class was all about group projects and getting you out of your comfort zone to contribute which I was not use to. It took me some time to adjust to this class since it was so much different than anything I have done before.
Reflections:
Group projects are always very difficult. Whether it be organizing meetings or getting everyone to agree on something. I learned a lot during this class it shaped be to become a great employee who can potentially lead projects if needed.
Wahl Clipper Corporation Project
Project Focus:
Develop a database to keep track of defects recorded by auditors.
Contribution/Role:
Database developer
Technology/Skills:
Microsoft Access, Visual Basic
Description:
I was hired to build a defect database for the auditors. It was a way for them to store what type of defect, when it happened, what was the cause, and a way to report this data in meetings. I made many forms, some to edit information and others to add information so the auditors would never have to go into the tables. I wanted to make the database as user friendly as possible and the use of visual basic allowed me to accomplish this.
Challenges:
There were many challenges to this project, but the main one was that I have never done anything with Microsoft Access before this internship. I had to teach myself the basics and learn as I go. This made the project difficult, but I learned a lot and am now confident in my Access abilities.
Reflections:
This was my first job ever doing development. I learned a lot but it was stressful at times, but also very rewarding. I greatly enjoyed this job and position. It was interesting teaching myself Access and it prepared me greatly for the CMIS 450 course.
Centene Corporation Project
Project Focus:
Convert Word documented work processes into Visio work flows.
Contribution/Role:
Business Analysis
Technology/Skills:
Microsoft Visio, Work Flows
Description:
In this project I was hired to convert Word work processes into Visio work flows. I was also hired to make it easier for the analyst to process claims. This involved having some understanding of the process and understanding when steps duplicated. I would remove these duplicated steps so analyst would not take the time to look at them, therefore to make it more efficient for analyst to process the claims faster.
Challenges:
Since I have never processed claims before the hardest part for me was understanding what the work processes were saying. It took me awhile before I could convert them to work flows because I needed to have some understanding of the process
Reflections:
This was a great project it made me understand how the business worked. It helped me to quickly adapt to the company. I saw how the day to day operations worked at Centene .
