Wahl Clipper Corporation

Wahl Logo      At Wahl Clipper I was hired, during the summer of 2014, to build a quality defect database using Access 2010 under the supervision of Quality Manager Mary Ordean. Wahl is still using the database I built to keep track of the production line's defects.

Prior to this internship I have had no database experience since I have yet to take CMIS 450. I had to self-teach myself Access and everything I can do with it. A class that I did take that helped me with this project was CMIS 142 where I learned Visual Basic. I made the database very user friendly with the knowledge I learned in CMIS 142 and the users really loved it. I am forever grateful to Mary Ordean. She was a great manager and taught me so much about the business world. She made me self-efficient. If I had a question she always wanted me to try and figure it out before I asked her. It allowed me to learn Access a lot more quickly and it helped me to get the most out of the internship. I finished the database in a summer and I am very proud of it. The reason I left Wahl was because I needed to take some classes over the summer at SIUE and I also received an internship position at Centene.

Centene Corporation

Centene logo      The second Internship I received was at Centene Corporation in Town and Country, MO in the summer of 2015. In this internship I worked under Claims Training Manager Jason York. I was hired to convert their current Word work processes into Visio work flows. Thanks to my CMIS 270 course I had the skills required to complete this task.

This first responsibility split into many other responsibilities. At a time I was making Access database updates for the Claims analyst. My main responsibility was to convert documents from Word to Visio. I completed converting and creating the Visio documents. I lead meetings where we would LEAN the documents. LEANing documents made the Work Flows that I created less wordy so the analysis could process claims faster and in return make the company more money. I enjoyed this part of the job greatly, because I could see how I was benefiting the company and I loved improving their current processes.

Centene has a great internship program. Centene set up presentations with executives, went to Cardinals games with our managers, and had many networking events. To hear the executives experiences was extremely interesting and informative. They also set up tours of the claims center and their datacenter. Since I have never seen either, it was a very eye opening experience and very educational. The data center tour was very interesting and it made me interested in security.
