Humanitarian Awards
The Humanitarian Awards is given to outstanding individuals who embrace the humanitarian principles and ideals of Dr. King. The awards include:
- Community Humanitarian Award
- SIUE Faculty/Staff Humanitarian Award
Organizations, businesses, agencies or individuals may nominate a person who is an Illinois resident and at least 21 years old. The person must have initiated, developed or participated in programs, services or activities which have inspired empathy, understanding, and acceptance with regard to diversity, equity and inclusion topics and/or persons of underrepresented groups. Only community service unrelated to the nominee’s job duties will be considered. Community members must be employed for at least two continuous years at their current agency, organization or business and SIUE faculty/staff nominees must be currently employed at SIUE.
The committee reserves the right not to make an award if in its judgment no entry warrants such recognition. Past recipients are not eligible to be nominated for a second humanitarian award.
