Celebrations
At the beginning and end of each academic semester, the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub celebrates students from the global majority; or as often stated in the United States, traditionally underrepresented or historically marginalized or minoritized populations. The K-Hub does this to ensure students from these specific populations are acknowledged, seen, welcomed, and celebrated. Students from these specific identity groups at a Predominantly White Institution (PWI) like SIUE, often hold unique experiences and challenges.
It is the duty and privilege of the the K-Hub and other campus partners to ensure that once a student walks on this campus, they are welcomed, connected to resources, and shown they matter. And, once they have completed all necessary requirements for graduation, it is also the duty and privilege of the K-Hub and campus partners to celebrate the student's achievements, and the persistence and resilience needed to make it to graduation.
It is for this reason that we hope students join us at the Welcome Receptions and Graduation Celebrations for all the identities with which they align and feel affirmed.
Welcome Celebrations
Each semester, the K-Hub hosts receptions to welcome students from traditionally underrepresented populations to campus. The Welcome programs serve as an introduction to specific resources on campus, allow students to meet and engage with one another in a purposefully inclusive environment, and provide activities for participation. These programs are open to all students. The Welcomes also provide an opportunity for all faculty, staff, and students in attendance to mingle and get to know one another outside of the constraints of a classroom environment.

Graduation Celebrations
Each semester, the K-Hub hosts ceremonies in honor of our SIUE graduates representing various historically underrepresented populations. These pre-commencement ceremonies celebrate the extraordinary achievements made by students who are members of traditionally minoritized groups. The ceremonies are held in collaboration with the SOAR Office, and Faculty & Staff Associations. These pre-commencement ceremonies do not replace regular campus or individual school and college graduation ceremonies.
