Task/ Requirements

Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird is set in Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930s.  What was it like to live during the 1930s?  How was it different from today?  Your task is to find out what it would be like to live in the 1930s from the point of view of either 1) a banker living through The Great Depression, 2) a farmer living through The Dust Bowl, 3) a defendant in The
Scottsboro Trials, or 4) President Franklin D. Roosevelt as he tried to adopt his New Deal legislation.

You will be graded on two assignments:
  1.  A two to three page double-spaced paper where you report what it was like to be you (either the banker, farmer, defendant, or President Roosevelt) in the 1930s.  The rubric for this paper can be found under the Evaluation (Rubric) section of this webquest.
  2. A four to six minute oral presentation where you report your findings out loud for the class.  You must use at least one visual aid in your presentation (Powerpoint, a poster, a real artifact from the 1930s, etc.).  If you wish, you may also dress up like your character on the day of your presentation.
