You job is to tell us what it was
like
to be one of the defendants in the Scottsboro Trials during the 1930s
(for your paper and presentation you may need to include information
about what happened to the defendants during the 1940s and 1950s, as
well). To do this, you should use the four websites listed
below. You are expected to use information from at least three of
the four sites. As you do your research, keep the following
questions in mind:
- Who were "the Scottsboro Boys?" Where did they come from before their trials happened?
- Why was their trial such a big story? Why is it
something
that is studied even now?
- What were the big issues in the case? How were they
resolved?
- Where did the trials take place? Why did this make a
difference in the case?
- What was the day-to-day life of these defendants like?
