Biography

Prior to joining the SIUE faculty, Dr. Barber was a doctoral candidate in the Department of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management in the Bryan School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned her Ph.D. in 2014 and her dissertation examined the predatory coercion and victimization of children inside of social media.

Dr. Barber has over 12 years of industry experience with the use of computer hardware and software. Eight of those years was spent designing, building and managing databases. Those databases supported public school education consultants in Eastern Iowa, College of Medicine faculty at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and faculty in the College of Public Health at UAMS specifically for data collection required for grants.

Her current research builds upon her dissertation on the unintended consequences of social media. She has published in the International Journal of Virtual Communities and Social Networking as well as several conference proceedings.
