Political Issues
Political leaders admit that we live in a "representational" democracy (groups are represented by legislature) rather than a participatory democracy (the populace are directly involved).

But do we really even have a "representational" democracy?  In other words,  are your issues, values, needs truly being represented by elected officials?   Many of the groups below think not.

Empowering Women Globally
Incite
'INCITE! is a national, activist organization of radical feminists of color that is mobilizing to end all forms of violence against women of color and our communities. By supporting grassroots organizing, we intend to advance a national movement to nurture the health and well-being of  communities of color. Through the efforts of Incite!, women of color and our communities will move closer towards global peace, justice and liberation. '
 National Organization for Women
The National Organization for Women is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW has 500,000  contributing members and 550 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Since its founding in 1966, NOW's goal has  been "to take action" to bring about equality for all women. Both  the actions NOW takes and its position on the issues are often  unorthodox, uncompromising and ahead of their time.
Women's International League for Peace and Freedom
The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom was founded in 1915 during World War I,    with Jane Addams as its first president. WILPF  works to achieve through peaceful means world disarmament, full rights for  women, racial and economic justice, an end to all forms of violence, and to  establish those political, social, and psychological conditions which can assure  peace, freedom, and justice for all.

Rolling Thunder Democracy Tour
"It's a county fair with guts. A revival with a reason. A concert with consciousness. A festival with funk and function. The Rolling Thunder Down-Home Democracy Tour reawakens a great American tradition of asserting the power of regular people to fight for their rights; throws in some enlightening education, soul-stirring music, mouth-watering food and drink; tops it off with a good jolt of Jim Hightower wit and wisdom, plus invigorating insight from firebrand speakers ranging from Jesse Jackson Jr. to Barbara Ehrenreich, and shazam!"

Move On:  Democracy in Action
MoveOn is working to bring ordinary people back into politics. With a system that today revolves around big money and big media, most citizens are left out. When it becomes clear that our "representatives" don't represent the public, the foundations of democracy are in peril. MoveOn is a catalyst for a new kind of grassroots involvement, supporting busy but concerned citizens in finding their political voice. Our nationwide network of more than 600,000 online activists is one of the most effective and responsive outlets for democratic participation available today.
Center for American Progress
The Center for American Progress has launched this new database project to chart conservatives's dishonesty – and compare it with the truth. In this database, each conservative quote will be matched against well-documented facts, so that users can get a more accurate picture of the issues.

Reproductive Rights
NARAL --
National Rights Abortion League
Our goal at NARAL Pro-Choice America is to help find workable answers that will ultimately reduce the need for abortions. Ignoring shortcomings in access to contraception, reproductive health care, and sex education while ripping away a woman's right to choose will only result in more unintended pregnancies and more abortions. This shortsighted approach is neither American nor life affirming.  Until we achieve our goal, it is critical that those who value the freedom and independence we enjoy in this country work hard now to protect a woman's right to choose. For now, that basic American right is seriously at risk.
