Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

~Nelson Mandela

Education has always been very important to me. I enjoy learning new things and then being able to apply that knowledge to some aspect of my life.

I attended Marquette Catholic High School in Alton, Ill. There were only 75 people in my graduating class, so we were a big family. I believe I will be friends with them for the rest of my life. The experiences and memories I took away from Marquette are irreplacable. I was able to maintain a 3.6 GPA throughout my high school career. I was a member of the tennis team, soccer team, student council, SADD and National Honor Society. I also got the opportunity to travel to Matamoros, Mexico. Forty of my friends and I built two small homes for two families. Marquette will always have a special place in my heart.

I currently attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. My major is public relations with a journalism minor. I decided to go into this field when I was a senior in high school. I had to write five essays over different careers in which I might be interested. Public Relations was one of the five. In the essay, I described it as having strong skills in writing and communicating with people. I have a passion for both of those skills, so that is how I decided on my major. I am really happy I decided to go down this career path because I have enjoyed all of my classes and the material behind them. I am very excited about graducation in May 2011 and getting out in the PR world!
