Development of the Program
The RSVP Program is a five session group therapy program developed in collaboration with the Madison County (Illinois) Juvenile Detention Center. This program was first implemented in 2006 and has continued throughout the fall and spring semesters. The purpose of the program is to allow youth to identify stress and stressors in their life, to learn the relaxation techniques of deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and guided imagery, and to teach the importance of relaxation techniques as an alternative to anger and violence.
If you are a researcher and are interested in implementing this program as part of a research study, please contact Dr. Jewell at 618-650-3734 or jejewel@siue.edu.
