Academic Advisement for All Students
Whether you are a newly admitted freshman, a transfer student, or a current SIUE student, the Office of First Year and Transitional Advising is here to assist you in planning your course of academic study.
New Freshmen
If you are a new freshman admitted for the fall semester, you will receive information about New Student Orientation, our mandatory orientation program. Click here for intended advising outcomes of New Student Orientation.
Prior to the Fall semester, an advisor will be assigned to you. Students will be assigned an advisor in either the Office of First Year and Transitional advising, SOAR advising, or athletic advising; please contact the respective offices for advising appointments.

Transfer Students
When you choose to transfer to SIUE, we want to help you adjust to your new university home as quickly as possible. We work to make the transfer process simple, so you can easily transition to a new plan of study. Once you have been admitted and your transcripts have been evaluated, please follow the steps depending on your situation:
- If you have at least 30 credit hours that transferred to SIUE and know what you would like to finish your degree in, contact the respective Major advising office:
- College of Arts and Sciences: 618-650-5525
- School of Business: 618-650-3840
- School of Education, Health, and Human Behavior: 618-650-3940
- School of Engineering: 618-650-5300
- School of Nursing: 618-650-3956
- If you have less than 30 credit hours, or have at least 30 credit hours and are undecided in your major, contact the Office of First Year and Transitional Advising at 618-650-3701 to schedule an appointment to meet with an academic advisor.
