Frequently Asked Questions
Will Housing provide isolation space?
There are a limited number of spaces for on-campus students who must isolate or quarantine. Students are expected to return home during their isolation period so that there is adequate space for students who have extenuating circumstances (e.g., housing and food insecurity, etc.) that prevent them from returning home or to their permanent residence. The CDC has provided information about safely quarantining with roommates or family members. Residents will be required to follow provided protocol for self-isolation. Housing partners with Dining Services to allow residents to order meal kits that are delivered.
Does a COVID-positive individual have to isolate for 5 days or 10 days?
Individuals are expected to follow the University’s Isolation and Quarantine Guidance. COVID-positive individuals are required to isolate for at least 5 full days. Additionally, they are required to wear a well-fitted mask for 10 full days any time they are around others in their home or in public and should not go to places where they are unable to wear a mask.
In order to align with this guidance, University Housing residents who live in shared bedroom, cannot return to their space for 10 days since they cannot always meet the guidance and mask around others (for example, sleeping). However, they are released from isolation after 5 days and can return to class, work, etc. in a well-fitted mask. Residents who live in a private bedroom space can return to their space after 5 days.
Are there updates to the Living Guide (University Housing Handbook)?
Yes. There is an addition to the Living Guide that captures the Health and Safety impacts on our residential communities. Please visit the Living Guide page for more information.
Will I get a refund if my courses are moved to virtual instruction at any point?
While coursework may move to a virtual format for a select period, University Housing residents will continue to have access to their living unit and campus resources. University Housing staff will continue to provide programming and support, virtually and in person. Housing bill adjustments will not be made for students who choose to engage in their virtual learning at their permanent address.
