Transition to Post-Secondary Education
The SIUE Pre-Collegiate Program, a program within the SIUE CORE TEAM department, is a college preparatory program designed to assist high school students in their transition to post-secondary education upon high school graduation. Students may only be accepted in the program during their 9th, 10th or 11th grade years. Once in the program, students remain a participant through high school graduation and are expected to attend all sessions and events.
The program offers engaging presentations and workshops on a variety of topics such as college financial planning, career and personality assessment, time-management, self-care, networking, test prep, etc. Additionally, participants who successfully complete at least 90% of the program requirements upon high school graduation will automatically qualify for the SIUE Summer Success Program.
In addition to our focus on student academic success, we emphasize parent/family involvement in the student’s education. The Pre-Collegiate Program encourages parents to engage in the education process. We want to provide them with the tools and strategies that will help them support their students as they progress through the various educational transitions in preparation for post-secondary success. Through parent engagement, the program hopes to have a much broader educational impact on both the immediate and extended family.
