The Civil Engineering Department has successfully graduated two more doctoral students through the SIUE-SIUC cooperative doctoral program in engineering science. Dr. Azadeh Akhavan Bloorchian (environmental and water resources engineering, advised by Dr. Jianpeng Zhou and co-advised by Dr. Abdolreza Osouli), and Dr. Siavash Zamiran (geotechnical engineering, advised by Dr. Abdolreza Osouli) were conferred their Ph.D. degrees at the Fall 2017 commencement. CE Students Build Masonry Arch

On April 26, Mark Vasquez of MAV Masonry helped a team of civil engineering students construct a masonry arch in our structural laboratory. Building Products Corporation and MAV graciously donated 200 bricks, lime, and sand for the project, which is part of a masonry arch competition sponsored by the Association for Preservation Technology International.

Md Toushik Ahmed Niloy, Civil Engineering won first place for his poster presentation at the 2017 Graduate Student Research Symposium. The title of his presentationn was “Actuated Signal Timing Optimization for a No-Notice Evacuation: A Simulation Study of Residents near the Phillips 66 Oil Refinery in Wood River, Illinois”. Dr. Ryan Fires, is the advisor for this master thesis work.
