CODES Academic Advisor: Sarah Stover, M.A.
Sarah Stover works in the Student Opportunities for Academic Results (SOAR) program. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Blackburn College and her master's degree in Human Development Counseling from University of Illinois Springfield. During her graduate studies she worked for the UIS Department of Service-Learning and found her passion for working in higher education. Sarah was a first-generation college student from a rural community and benefited from many supportive staff and faculty in her own college career. She is proud to be in a position that allows her to give back and assist others with the same dedication as those who helped her. She is excited to be a part of students’ SIUE journey!
Advising Overview
Your advisor will provide guidance for successfully navigating your college experience. In addition to working with you to choose courses for the following semester, we provide you with important information and support. The number of times you will meet with your advisor varies depending on your needs, but you will need to meet at least once a semester. You can expect to discuss:
- Course recommendations and requirements
- Time management
- Connection to campus resources
- Major/minor changes
- GPA calculation and improvement
- Study skills

Orientation Advising
Before Orientation
In order for your advisor to pre-enroll you in classes at SIUE (to guarantee you receive the best possible schedule, you will need to do the following:- Check your email often.
- Complete placement testing at least two weeks prior to your orientation date (the sooner the better for class placement).
- Submit any dual credit or AP credit that you earned prior to attending SIUE.
- Notify your advisor if your major changes
***Anything not completed will result in having an incomplete schedule when you attend your orientation date.
During Orientation
You can expect your advisor to go over the courses that you are registered for, a broad overview of required courses, and any study skills and resources that you might need to be successful at SIUE. After orientation is completed, you will need to complete any additional tasks that were recommended after meeting, such as:- Completing further placement testing.
- Submitting and dual credit or AP credit that you have not done so yet
- Taking a foreign language proficiency test.
