Mathematics Placement
All SIUE students are required to take QR 101: Quantitative Reasoning which has no prerequisite.
Students may use MATH 145: Calculus for the Life Sciences or MATH 150: Calculus I, with a grade of C or better as a substitute for the QR 101 requirement. In addition, students may also take a proficiency Exam.
For students whose majors require mathematics courses, placement into courses is based on performance in the ALEKS Placement Exam.
Mathematics Placement Based on ALEKS Scores
- Less than 30 AD 070: Beginning Algebra*
- 30 to 45 MATH 120E: Enhanced College Algebra
- 46 to 60 MATH 120: College Algebra
- 61 to 75 MATH 125: Precalculus
- Above 75 MATH 145: Calculus for the Life Sciences
- MATH 150: Calculus I
*Not college-credit bearing
