Consider a Degree in Mathematics and Statistics
- We offer undergraduate programs in actuarial science, applied mathematics, pure mathematics, statistics, and mathematics for teacher licensure. You can launch many different careers from these degrees.
- We have masters degrees in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics and operations research, and post-secondary mathematics education. Our graduate degrees can be completed by taking classes in the evening and in the summer.
- Job growth is strong in the future. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that by 2022, actuarial science jobs will grow 26%, mathematicians by 23%, operations research analysts by 27%, and statisticians by 27%.
- Mathematicians, statisticians, and actuaries earn competitive salaries. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for actuaries (in 2012) was $93,000, for mathematicians was $101,000, for statisticians was $75,500, and for operations research analysts was $72,000.
- In addition to competitive salaries, surveys consistently rank job satisfaction highly. Mathematician, statistician, and actuary are all in the top four careers in the 2015 "CareerCast" survey, which is based on several factors, including stress and job satisfaction.
- Our faculty are very active in research and have held grants from the National Science Foundation and other agencies and companies. Some faculty publish frequently with students and other faculty have supported students in the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (URCA) program.

Minors
If you've already taken Calculus I and II, you can get a minor in mathematics or a minor in statistics with only 3 additional properly chosen courses. Where are Our Graduates?
In so many places! Our graduates are working at Centene, Charter Communications, Scott Air Force Base, Scotttrade, Humana, Horace Mann, the FBI, and many other private companies and government agencies. Other students have gone on to graduate school at Texas A&M, the University of Iowa, Mizzou, Indiana University, St. Louis University, and others. Mathematicians and statisticians often take jobs with titles like analyst, engineering, or data scientist.
