About Will Lindsey
Biography
William Lindsey, the son of Sheri Lindsey/Davis (later married) and Daniel Hammond. William was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Living with his older sister and his mom on the south side of Chicago, Willam attended Miles Davis Academy where he exceled in all of his academics. William loved to go out side after school was finished and run around the block, playing tag not it with his friends and his sister.
By the time William was 10 he had realized he had a passion for running. He would race everyone on the block and beat them in bike races and on foot, but he couldn't quite be his sister yet. William didn't know Track and Field was even a sport until his sister started running in Junior High School.
With the great success his sister was having he coulnd't wait to get in 7th grade just to be like her and run. Diane (William older sister) excelled in Basketball, Volleyball, and Track. When William first signed up in 7th grade he was outstanding. He was the best 7th grader in the history of his Junior High School (Roosevelt Junior High School). William never lost a race going through his 7th grade and 8th grade career until he went to IESA State in 2005.
William was the first and the only person in his schools history to make it to state. He lost in the prelims. William thought all hope was lost when he lost the race. In the summer after William graduated from 8th grade he ran summer track with a program called Dixmoor Dominators where he met track coach Kareem Jackson who later became a good person in William's life.
Jackson trained William that summer and William became one of the best Hurdlers in High School Track. William competed at the Junior Olympics where he just missed making the finals for the Hurdles. He had failed once again it seemed. But that day William made a promise to himself to be great and that he did, and is still doing. William went on to run track at Thornton Township where he was team captain his freshman year and lead his team to state 4 years in a row. He placed as top as 2nd in state due to injuries and he was ranked as high as 2nd In the nation in the 400 and 110 hurdles in his particular age group. With great success in high school running for Vince McAuliffe, William then went to run in college for his old coach Kareem Jackson.
William gave alot of credit for his success to his coach Kareem Jackson, he felt like he wouldn't be the athlete he is today if it wasn't for him. Transioning to a collegiate athlete went very well for him athletically, but he struggled academacially. William became the best freshman on his college team and later became the best Hurdler in the Ohio Valley Conference his freshman year. After Williams sophmore year he struggled with Depression and suicide after losing his grandmother to cancer. He thought he wouldn't return back to school yet alone to running. He returned his junior year and had a break out season. Breaking all of his records and stepping up for his team further more. William had tons of accomplishments and success even when he was injured he was still a threat to average runners.
On March 21, 2012, William had his first daughter Kennedi Lindsey. In the summer of 2012 William was on track to going to the Olympic Trials one step closer to his dream of competing in the Olympics. William missed his race the day of the meet. William went 3 years through college at Southern Illinois Universtiy until he was kicked off the team becasue of his academic eligibility in his Senior year. The classes that he failed had finally caught up with him. Crushed he decided to drop out of school and give up running and pursuing his degree, but he decided to finish the school year instead and hope to get good grades to be back on the team.
