The most common job title in education with regard to technology is that of Technology Coordinator. Technology Coordinators are educators at the school or district level who work to facilitate effective use of a wide range of computer-related information technologies in instruction.
A Technology Coordinator's duties fall into four main categories: Technology Administrator, Staff Development Specialist and Trainer, Curriculum Coordinator and Integrator, and Technical and Network Specialist. Some schools and districts ask one person to meet all of these needs while others may spread the work load out among more people, usually along the divisions mentioned.
Communication skills are vital for success in this role. A Technology Coordinator needs to involve local businesses and community, school board, administrators, parents, students, and teachers in planning, evaluation, and implementation of the technology program. The formation of special interest committees and support groups, newsletters, webpages, workshops, public demonstrations, phone calls, e-mails and in-person meetings will be the foundation of the technology plan's success.
