About
Hi! My name's Laura and I'm a Geography Major at Southern Illinois University/Edwardsville. I also have a minor in Mass Comm which explains this blog. I'll be graduating this Spring and this will be considered my final project. I've published this blog, because I have an interest in invasive species, especially bugs. I'm hoping to spread awareness about how potentially dangerous invasives can be to our ecosystem, and the destruction they've already caused. Maybe, we can come up with a plan to keep these invaders out of our ecosystem and restore it to it's natural state.
I became interested in this topic when I was introduced to the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug. These little critters are a menace and have caused considerable damage to fruit trees and vegetable crops. I've learned a lot about invasive species this past semester, because I took a Biogeography class and invasives is one of the topics we studied.
There are also many invasive plants that have been introduced to the United States and have been really causing problems for our ecosystem. Unfortunately, these invasive species don't have natural preditators and are very hardy, so they're growing and reproducing faster than we can get rid of them.
I'm hoping to learn more about the subject, and I am interested to hear about your experiences. Follow me on twitter or email me, and I hope you'll learn something too!
Enjoy!
