SYLLABUS

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Advanced seminar in human resource management with a focus on current issues in the field.

Mondy, Noe, and Premeaux, Human Resource Management, 7th Ed., Prentice Hall, 1999.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

The format for the course will be a team format.  Each team will function as a human resources department for a large corporation.  Each class session teams will discuss, research, and write a case concluding with a solution to a current problem in HRM that will be assigned the prior class session by the instructor.  Teams will be expected to read assigned text chapters as well as conduct independent research in working up their cases.  Other research material includes other texts, articles, Internet sources, and any other legitimate source.

Class discussion and interaction with the instructor will be a large part of the class as will team interaction.  Contributions to teams are crucial.  All team members must significantly contribute to their teams. 

Students should read the text as quickly as possible since it will be a major resource for the course.

GRADING

Grading will be based upon class participation and the weekly cases prepared by the teams.

CASE PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS

 Cases should be prepared in the following format:

            Section 1: Case Statement: Facts and Issue(s)
            Section 2: Applicable Law, Human Resource Policies or Practices
            Section 3: Discussion of Section 2 as applied to Section 1
            Section 4: Conclusion, Solution, and Recommendation
