What is Audio?
Audio can be defined in several ways. Most simply, it is sound within the range of human hearing.
In terms of Physics - | it is Vibrations traveling through a medium
In terms of Signal - | it is Mechanical, or electrical representation
In Digital terms - | it is Waveform |
Some basic aspects of sound that can describe and affect audio (FIT):
Frequency | hertz (Hz) | how fast vibrations are occuring; also known as "pitch," how high or low the audio sounds |
Intensity | decibels (dB) | how loud the sound is; also called "amplitude," or volume |
Timbre | shape of the waveform | the character or quality of a sound as distinct from frequency and intensity; This is how we can tell the difference between instruments or voices. |
