- Persistence:
- After my first attempt at college, going back to school was always in the back of my mind, but the circumstances were never right. When the opportunity arose to return to school, I threw myself into it wholeheartedly. The desire to return to school never really left, but was simply overshadowed. Now, eighteen years after graduating high school, I have managed not only to graduate, but to do so with a 4.0 grade point average since returning to school.
- Flexibility:
- In order to achieve my goal of graduating in two years after returning to school, I had to make excellent use of my time. Balancing five classes per semester including summer, working twenty-five hours a week, and any other outside influences required me to be very flexible with my time. By being flexible with my time, I have succeeded in achieving my goal of graduating in two years.
- Curiosity:
- The knowledge I have obtained in school has led me to expand my learning outside of the classroom. In order to further my education and make myself more versatile, I purchased several instructional books on programming languages to learn outside of class. Some of these books were languages that I already had experience with, such as PHP and Java, and others were languages that I had no experience with, such as ASP.NET and JavaScript. By expanding on the knowledge I obtained in classes and learning new programming languages on my own, I hope to make myself a more attractive candidate to companies.
- Creativity:
- The skills I have learned over the last two years have allowed me to conceive several ideas for different projects tied to some of my hobbies that I can now bring to fruition. These projects include an e-commerce site for jewelry, a repository for user-created forms for World of Warcraft, a nationwide database for karaoke locations, and a photo hosting site for travel pictures sharing a common theme.
