Arthur and Amié Start a New LifeKaren Scott Hull, a former inlaw of a descendant of Arthur Louis Nicolas Andris has provided the following information from the 1920 and 1930 US Census, which gives us some insight into how the immigrant family was changing. By 1920, oldest son, Arthur N. Andris, 24, had married Emiliene Mauriocort, 21, and they were living with her parents, Emile Mauriocourt, 45, and his wife, Emiliene, 38, at 626 Front Street in Marietta, OH. It is very likely that Arthur and his father-in-law travelled to Salem, WV during the week to work as glassblowers in a glassworks located there. Also at the Marietta residence were the Mauriocourt's other daughter, Helen, 19, a sales lady in a drygoods store, and the Andris' young son, Eugene, 9 months old. The census entry tells us that Emile emigrated in 1886 and was naturalized in 1892. By 1930, we find Arthur Andris, Jr., 34, and Emiliene, 31, renting at 100 W. Montgomery St. in Marietta, OH, and working as a trackman starting cars. This entry lists their age of marriage as 22 and 19 respectively. In the home are now Eugene, 11, and Robert, 8. 1930 US Census taken 4 Apr 1930 shows Arthur Andris, 57, and family living at 313 Green St. with his wife, Victoria H., 54, and sons Alfonse, 22, and Fernant, 20, both working in the grocery store. He is listed as managing the grocery store. Arthur was to die in a month. Finally, we find Amy Robert Andris, 31, renting with his wife, Zelma A., 26, at 1024 Huron St. in Toledo, OH. He is working as a machinist in a die and casting company and Zelma works in an auto factory. Two children are listed, Louise, A., 6, and Robert A., 2 yrs, 9 mos. Also living there is William T. Davis, Zelma's brother, a paper hanger.
