Basics of 3D Modeling

Suggested Tutorials

Here you will find the very basics of 3D modeling. First you will see how to use the fee 3D modeling program, Blender. to make a very basic chair. Then you will learn about exporting so you can use the model in other things.

Blender can be used for quite a few things, including  creating full animated scenes.  We are just concerned with the tools for creating a 3D model for now.  This will really just be a very basic introduction to Blender.  We will start from the assumption that you have already downloaded Blender and installed it but have no idea what to do next.

The best way to really learn Blender is to make something, and the best reference for making something in blender are Youtube tutorials.  You will be able to find those on the Resources page but I will also list some select tutorials here. The first couple of videos will be tutorials I have made myself, but then I will also list other peple's tutorials. Each video will be accompanied by a description that should give you and idea of what skills and tools it covers.  All videos are best viewed in highest resolution.

In order to track how far along you are on the site, and to help others know what your relative experience in 3D modeling is, I have set up this Badge System. After following each tutorial you should submit a screenshot or similar evidence that you have met the goal of each tutorial. You can either email me directly, or submit the screen capture via the appropriate category on the collaboration (G+ communty) page. The badges will be displayed at the bottom of each tutorial page on this site.

Before you go on to the tutorials, let's see if you understand 3D modeling. Take this quiz to get the "What is 3D Modeling?" badge. - Quiz
