Charlie Juneau started his business in Granite City, Ill., in 1980. He’ll tell you he made a smart business decision setting up an office in University Park at SIUE 16 years ago. When it was time for the business to grow, he was looking for a place that offered convenient access to resources and prospective business clients. He said he is pleased with the decision he made and has remained happy to be in the Park.
Juneau Associates, Inc., P.C., an award-winning company with six owners and prestigious recognitions from regional chambers of commerce and leadership agencies, provides professional engineering, land surveying and construction management services for public and private clients in Illinois and Missouri. The company, which currently has offices in Granite City, University Park at SIUE and St. Louis, takes pride in its ability to offer clients a full range of design, planning and construction services.
The company’s initial location in University Park was in a small space in one of the first facilities constructed on the property. The growing needs of his business, stimulated in large part by new relationships he forged with local leaders in the Edwardsville and Glen Carbon area, led him to seek out a larger space in the Park where his company still resides today.
“University Park at SIUE is a great atmosphere for businesses,” said Juneau. “The ability to interact with the University and the students was a big attraction for us.
“As a company, we are committed to providing learning opportunities to SIUE students. We are impressed by the high caliber of the students who come to us through co-op programs and internships. These students bring an energy and creativity to our projects and our office. Several of these students have become full-time employees of our firm.”
A total of 10 of Juneau’s 43 employees are SIUE graduates. He routinely collaborates with the SIUE School of Engineering to bring qualified graduating seniors on board to work through his company on their senior assignment projects. The senior assignment project is a requirement for all SIUE graduating seniors to prove their professional competence, as well as their proficiency in their area of study. Juneau said the ability to interact with talented students and interns provides his business with a fresh perspective that enhances the quality of its work.
Juneau Associates’ University Park location is near to the Madison County Bike Trails that the company helped plan. Juneau and his staff have also have been involved in a variety of high profile projects, including the Metro East Park and Recreation District revitalization, feasibility and topography for the Tri-City Regional Port District South Harbor project, surveying work for US Steel in Granite City, and structural reviews for MetroLink.
“Engineering requires creativity and the ability to solve problems economically,” Juneau said. Working with co-op students and student interns, and utilizing SIUE resources allows his company to stay current, and proactively meet clients’ needs.
