Starfish and Degree Works
Starfish is the University’s advising appointment system. All currently enrolled SIUE students can access Starfish through Blackboard. As a student, you can use Starfish to:
- Schedule appointments with advisors and instructors
- Create a student profile and set up notifications and reminders across all of your devices
Once you login to Starfish, you will notice that your faculty and advisors are listed in your Success Network. Honors students may have multiple advisors assigned to them, based on their year in school and their major/program of study. Your honors advisor will be listed specifically as the Scholar Advisor. This is where you will schedule your honors advising appointment.
Degree Works is a comprehensive, web-based academic advising and degree audit tool that allows you to track your degree completion. Degree Works looks at the degree requirements of the SIUE catalog in order to compare your registered coursework and courses you have completed to assist you and advisors in reviewing your degree progress. It also allows you and your advisors to plan for future courses. The degree worksheet is divided into block requirements showing how courses taken or proposed count toward degree requirements. Checkboxes denote what courses and requirements are complete within each block.
Not all programs are fully developed in Degree Works, and many of the programs have not yet had the honors curriculum integrated into them. While Degree Works can be useful in seeing what major-related courses are required, students should consult with their major, minor and honors advisors to ensure that they are making progress to graduation.
