Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) has announced the appointment of Tammy T. Moore, EdD, as the Manager of Federal, State, and Licensure Compliance in the Office of Educational Outreach. Moore officially assumed her new role on Jan. 8. 

In her capacity, Moore is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the University's adherence to both existing and emerging state and federal authorization mandates. Additionally, she oversees compliance with regulations pertaining to academic programs that lead to licensure. This strategic role underscores SIUE's commitment to maintaining the highest standards in educational compliance and regulatory requirements. 

When off campus, Moore is an avid gardener. She took time recently to answer a few questions. 
 

How has your previous experience uniquely equipped you for success in this role? 

Before joining SIUE, I held the position of Certification Officer and Director of an Academic Center at a nationally recognized private post-secondary institution within the College of Education and Human Services. At the previous institution, I established the first Academic center dedicated to education majors. In this role, I worked closely with students to enhance processes and navigate the dynamic landscape of state regulations. 

Additionally, I collaborated with faculty and staff to ensure Missouri state compliance across many educational programs leading to certification. My charge was to collect and code data for annual state and federal reporting to maintain accountability for educator preparation. As the liaison with the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, I actively fostered relationships to fortify university support. 

At this institution I worked as an adjunct professor, instructing graduate students in Action and Educational Research courses to equip them for entry into a doctoral program. Serving as a chairperson and committee member, I guided numerous doctoral students through their academic journey, and I continue to provide guidance to individuals in their research endeavors. 

Your career path began with a bachelor’s in business from Lindenwood University, how does this background help you in your new role? 

I obtained a bachelor's and master's degree in business before pursuing a doctorate degree in instructional leadership, specializing in higher education administration at Lindenwood University. Before transitioning to higher education, my professional background involved corporate experience as a claims supervisor, overseeing staff and advocating for individuals eligible for social security or railroad disability benefits. This role instilled in me the significance of building relationships and organizing information in a clear and comprehensible manner. 

During your professional journey, what are your proudest moments? 

As someone who has grown up in East St. Louis, I understand the vital role of education and the need to create opportunities for underrepresented communities. In my prior role at Lindenwood University as Certification Officer and Director within the College of Education and Human Services, my focus evolved into a fervent commitment to teacher recruitment and retention. After being selected to join the Consortium for Research-Based and Equitable Assessments which was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, this further emphasized my passion of enhancing diversity in the teaching profession. Armed with this insight and a decade of experience, I founded TeachPathways, LLC. Through this initiative, I offer a complimentary service to aspiring educators, guiding them through the process of alternative pathways for teacher certification/licensure. My collaboration extends to local educational agencies and the state board of education. 

I take pride in my role on the Planning Committee for the State of Black Educators Symposium—an annual event addressing issues impacting Black educators. As a volunteer, I actively support the co-founders in their efforts to advance the cause for Black educators.
