Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) have added and expanded their 2+2 Partnership Programs, aimed at benefiting students and simplifying the transition from SWIC to SIUE.

The expanded programs include speech pathology and audiology, public health, nutrition, early childhood education, English, including licensure for secondary education, and chemistry.

The agreements also include a renewal of biology and mathematics programming and addressed SWIC’s implementation of Illinois’ new associate of science requirements.

“In SIUE’s 2013 strategic plan, we set a goal to have 50 2+2 agreements in place by 2018,” said Denise Cobb, PhD, and SIUE interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. “We are well on our way to achieving this goal early and surpassing it. These agreements allow community college students to streamline the transfer process and to transition effectively into their major at SIUE.

“These new agreements provide additional opportunities for our future students. These agreements require a collaborative spirit and a focus on what is best for students. SIUE is strengthened by our positive relationship with SWIC, and we value their partnership. Our shared commitment to the students of this region will enable our continued success and vitality. ”

The 2+2 agreements allow students to follow a specific curriculum while attending their first two years at SWIC, then transfer into their intended major at SIUE. These programs, and SIUE's full-time advisor located on SWIC's campus, allow students to efficiently progress toward completion of their bachelor’s.
