SIU Trustees Approve Contracts for SIUE
The Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees, at its regularly scheduled meeting on the Carbondale campus Thursday, May 5, approved contracts for purchasing temporary employee services along with trash and recycling services on the Edwardsville campus. The board also revised the budget for the Art and Design East window replacement project, and approved planning for replacing flooring in Cougar Village single-student apartments.
The board approved a contract with Extra Help, Inc., of Marion, to purchase temporary employee services for various SIUE departments, which require temporary employees from qualified agencies throughout the academic year. The initial one-year contract is worth $200,000 with the option to renew for five, one-year periods subject to continuing needs, availability of funds and satisfactory vendor performance.
The board approved contracts with Allied Waste Transportation, Inc., of Edwardsville, for $540,000 and Waste Management, of St. Louis, for $355,000, to supply trash and recycling removal services to the Edwardsville, Alton and East St. Louis campuses, plus the St. Clair Head Start Centers. Subject to continued need, satisfactory vendor service and favorable market conditions, the University may renew the initial one-year agreement for up to an additional three one-year contracts. Allied Waste Transportation will manage the Morris University Center and University Housing, while Waste Management will service the remainder.
SIUE presented a revised budget of $4.5 million for the Art and Design East window replacement project after initial bids for the originally approved $3.32 million project budget were rejected. The project will be re-bid during summer 2016 and will be funded from facilities fee revenue. The project will use a combination of windows, metal panels and limestone to replace the failing original glass block windows. The building’s energy efficiency, lighting quality and overall comfort will improve.
The board will allow SIUE to move forward with planning and cost estimates to replace flooring material in the 400-side of single-student apartments in Cougar Village. The flooring material’s useful life has expired, and flooring options and costs will be studied. The design and replacement work will be funded by University Housing reserve, repair and replacement funds. Final budget and contract approvals will require further board consideration.
