SIUE SOP Students and Metro East Humane Society to Host Unique Health Event
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy Class of 2018 students are collaborating with the Metro East Humane Society to ensure the health of both pets and their owners.
A Pet Vaccination Clinic will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 23 at the Metro East Humane Society. Low-cost vaccinations will be provided for pets, and free blood pressure screenings will be offered for their owners. Funding for the activity is provided by the Meridian Society.
“This collaboration is a unique first,” said Cathy Santanello, associate professor in the SIUE School of Pharmacy. “We hope those who may not be able to afford pet vaccinations or blood pressure checks will take advantage of this opportunity.
“All healthcare workers need ample experiences working with patients prior to graduation,” she added. “I am proud that the School of Pharmacy provides our students with many opportunities like these that help the community. Our students are combining their love for animals with their passion for patient care.”
