SIUE’s Butts, Moore Tabbed for Top OVC Awards
SIUE seniors Shronda Butts and CoCo Moore have been tabbed for two top awards during the 2015-16 Ohio Valley Conference women's basketball season.
Butts was named the OVC Player of the Year and a first-team All-Conference member. Moore was selected as the co-Defensive Player of the Year. Both players became members of SIUE’s 1,000-point club this season.
The players were honored at a banquet Tuesday, March 1 preceding the OVC Tournament.
Butts, who ranks 11th nationally in scoring with 610 points, is averaging 21 points per game in her final season. She also is among national statistical leaders in assist/turnover ratio, assists, assists per game, field goal attempts, field goals made, field goal percentage, free throw attempts, free throws made, free throw percentage, steals and steals per game. Butts has scored in double figures in 26 of 29 games this season.
Moore shares her award with Belmont’s Sally McCabe and completed the regular season with a team-high 65 steals. She is fourth in scoring on the team with 9.8 points per game.
SIUE's opening game in the OVC Tournament is Thursday, March 3 when the third-seeded Cougars face sixth-seeded Southeast Missouri at 2 p.m. (CT).
