Famed Piano Player George Winston Performs Dec. 13 at SIUE
George Winston, one of the most recognized solo pianists in the world, will perform at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Winston will perform his “Winter Show” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, in the Morris University Center Meridian Ballroom. Winston’s performance will include some of Vince Guaraldi’s Peanuts® pieces, pieces inspired by the New Orleans piano and the stride piano traditions. The pianist will also play new songs from his upcoming album, Spring Carousel – A Cancer Research Benefit, which will be released in 2016.
General admission is $30 for adults, $27 for SIUE staff, faculty, retirees, alumni and patrons 65 and older, and $13 for students with valid ID. For tickets, call 866-698-4253 or visit artsandissues.com/georgewinston.shtml.
Since 1986, Winston has been raising money for food banks and service organizations in his touring markets. The pianist donates 100 percent of proceeds from the sale of his merchandise to food banks and service organizations. A local food bank for Winston’s Dec. 13th show has yet to be determined.
The songs from his upcoming album, Spring Carousel – A Cancer Research Benefit, were composed in 2013 while Winston was recovering from a bone marrow transplant. In yet another humanitarian gesture, Winston is dedicating 100 percent of his artist royalties to benefit cancer research.
In December 2013, Winston released the digital single “Silent Night—A Benefit for Feeding America,” which is available on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play. All the proceeds from this recording are benefiting Feeding America, the nationwide non-profit organization that feeds more than 45 million people through food banks around the country.
Winston has released a total of 13 solo piano albums. His most recent are Gulf Coast Blues & Impressions 2–A Louisiana Wetlands Benefit (2012) and Love Will Come-The Music of Vince Guaraldi Vol 2 (2010).
