Illinois Research Commons Showcases Open Access Research at Public Universities
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois University (EIU) are pleased to announce the launch of the Illinois Research Commons. The Commons is a new Open Access portal that showcases research and academic scholarship conducted at public universities in Illinois.
It makes the academic works openly accessible to scholars around the world. It also features a real-time global readership map, highlighting the international reach and impact of research from Illinois public institutions. Institutional repositories are playing an increasingly significant role in the way universities share, manage and preserve their scholarly outputs.
“The Illinois Research Commons is an excellent showcase for the depth and diversity of scholarly output from our state institutions,” said Steven Pryor, director of digital initiatives and technologies at SIUE. “It allows our communities access to the research they support, while also showing that the work of our public universities is important to users in all corners of the globe.”
Curated by university librarians and their supporting institutions, and hosted by bepress on its Digital Commons platform, the Illinois Research Commons aggregates content from the institutional repositories of five public Illinois universities including SIUE, EIU, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Illinois State University and Governors State University.
The Illinois Research Commons includes a robust collection of research, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, dissertations, working papers, conference proceedings and other original scholarly work. The Commons also showcases student work, special collections and documents from across the university campuses.
Users can type in search terms for easy discovery or browse content by institution, discipline or author. Click here to visit the Illinois Research Commons.
