A bone density test will measure the density of your bone, how much calcium and other types of minerals are in your bone. This test is not to be used for diagnostic purposes, but to help identify personal long-term health risks. If there is a concern with the results, we will direct you to your primary health care provider.
Expectations
You can expect to be on campus between 30-45 minutes. After completion of some initial paperwork, we will measure your height and weight. Then you will be ready for your BMD scan. All you will be required to do is lie on the DEXA scanner quietly for 7-15 minutes depending on your body type.
Preparation
Please wear athletic clothing that does not have any metal on it. To ensure the validity and accuracy of the test, it is important to not wear anything metal.
There are no special food/drink restrictions for this test.
If you are female, you will be required to complete a pregnancy test to ensure that you are not pregnant.
Results
Immediately after the scan, a technician will print your results and explain them to you and answer any questions you might have.
