Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning
Book: Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning, 1st edition, by James M. Lang (Jossey-Bass, 2016)
Description:
This book club will be a friendly, casual space for discussing insights from the scholarship of teaching and learning and how they can be implemented in your classroom in a manageable way. Using Small Teaching as a jumping-off point, we’ll share evidence-based ideas for improving teaching or overcoming problems.
Small Teaching offers an easy-to-read summary of research in cognitive science and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Then, Lang shares ideas for incorporating these insights into the college classroom in bite-sized practices (e. g., what you do in the first five minutes of class versus totally changing your syllabus).
Discussion Leader: Jeff Manuel (History)
Date/Time: We’ll meet on Zoom from noon-1:00 pm on the last Wednesday of each month. Feel free to attend while eating lunch!
(Wednesdays noon-1:00, Jan. 26, Feb. 23, March 30, and April 27)
Register: This Book Club has reached full capacity and is now closed.
