Share Your Prior Learning
Please consider this an opportunity to share your prior learning with us. Your portfolio materials, at a minimum, should include your resume or CV, your written statement, and a letter from your employer. Fees may apply.
Written Statement
Construct your written statement in an essay-style document. Within the written statement, point to concrete, specific, detailed examples that help the assessors understand the learning you have completed and the knowledge gained from that experience. Items to consider in constructing your written statement include:
- What do I know about a given topic/subject/discipline?
- How, when, where, and why did I learn it?
- How and when have I used this knowledge?
- What artifacts can I reference and describe in my statement? (Artifacts should show what you have learned. Consider letters of support, credentials, certifications, performance evaluations, samples of your work, etc. as artifacts. Please consider adding these artifacts to your materials as is viable.)
Employer Letter(s)
- Letters from employers should be on company letterhead, and they should speak to the employee’s successful learning outcomes and knowledge. Please note the following items that should be addressed within the body of the letter:
- Length of employment
- Experience with the given employee’s on-the-job learning by way of specific projects, assignments, and learning outcomes.
- Time frame/length/date of projects, assignments, duties, etc. that demonstrate acquired knowledge.
- Employee’s relative success and skill level with these projects, assignments, duties, etc.
Questions to Consider
Please provide specific, detailed examples in answering these questions:
- How has the employee demonstrated skills in analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making? With what frequency? How would you rate the results?
- How often and with what skill level does the employee utilize oral and written communication skills? How would you describe the employee’s experience, understanding, and practices with diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging?
- Has the employee exhibited intellectual curiosity? How? When?
- When and with what skill level has the employee exhibited the ability to use good judgment and make reasoned and informed value judgments?
