SIUE has been hosting annual symposia on Energy and Water topics since 2018. National and international experts have been attending these annual events which have been influential in the region.
SIUE Energy Symposium
With the increase in global population and growth in industrialization, our need for energy has become more evident in the past two decades. Increasing energy consumption comes with the challenges of energy demand and supply, energy security, and environmental concerns. We believe that awareness is the first step to handle these challenges for a greener and a safer future.
The main objective of SIUE Energy Symposia is to increase understanding of regional and global energy issues, and to promote awareness on energy topics. SIUE Water Symposium
SIUE’s Water Symposia focuses on water topics and issues with experts from the field. As part of Water Week, SIUE and ERTC hosted the second Water Symposium in April, 2021. The online event featured five presentations discussing the environmental, technical and social issues surrounding the world’s water supply. Presenters included Dr. Kevin Tucker (SIUE-Chemistry), Dr. Jim Zhou (SIUE-Civil Engineering), David McMillan (IRWA), Drew Hoelscher (ERTC, and Matt Maas (ERTC). A total of 82 unique participants attended from various SIUE departments, businesses, municipalities, and organizations. Numerous operators and students also attended the event that was approved for continuing education through the Illinois EPA.
